Ninyo & Moore provided geotechnical and materials testing services for Bridges 1 and 2 at the Imperial Sugar Redevelopment Project in Sugar Land, Texas. The bridges are being constructed over Oyster Creek to allow access to the 163-acre, mixed-use development which will include the new Minor League Baseball Stadium for the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Project Challenge: During our geotechnical study, it was estimated that the MSE wall for Bridge 1 would settle on the order of about 5 to 6 inches after construction, which was higher than could be tolerated.
Innovative Solution: Ninyo & Moore worked with the owner and project civil engineer to develop and monitor a surcharging plan to reduce the post construction settlements resulting in significant cost savings over other ground improvement methods.
Services: Ninyo & Moore’s services included providing geotechnical recommendations for the new bridge foundations and Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall in accordance with TXDOT guidelines. Ninyo & Moore also provided material testing and observation services during construction of the new bridges which includes drilled shaft observation, embankment fill, MSE wall backfill, and pavements.
