The SR 101L project includes 14 bridge widenings, several thousands of feet of sound and retaining walls, and 14 miles of new general purpose lanes in both directions. The project utilized the design-build (D/B) method of delivery to help reduce the overall project timeline. The D/B method involves pairing civil engineering firms with construction contractors to create “design builders” who work synergistically from beginning to end. This method created more opportunities for innovation and reduced costs.

Ninyo & Moore performed geotechnical, construction materials testing, and post-design engineering services for the ADOT, SR 101L, Interstate 17 to Pima Road General Purpose Lanes. The project included the design and construction of 14 miles for new general purpose lanes on SR 101L in both travel directions. The work also included 14 bridge widenings, constructing pavement, various structures, over 3.5 miles of retaining walls and sound walls, drainage, signage, pavement markings, street lighting, traffic signals, ITS, utilities relocation, landscape restoration, and AR-ACFC.
