Long Beach Airport Phase II Terminal Area Improvements
This $125M Phase II Terminal Area Improvement project consisted of new construction, modernizations, seismic retrofits, and renovations throughout the landside portion of the Long Beach Airport, which began in 2020.

The multi-phased project consisted of several components. Component 1A, completed in 2022, is a new Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) facility. Component 2, completed in 2022, consists of a new Ticketing Lobby. Component 1B, completed in 2023, consists of a new Baggage Claim Area, which provides protection from the elements and includes two new sloped plate carousels. Components 3A and 3B consisted of the modernization, seismic retrofit, and renovation of the Historic Terminal Building and relocation of and improvements to the Rental Car Customer Transaction counters. Component 4, completed in 2024, consists of a new public Meet and Greet Plaza and restroom renovations. The Terminal Building is a historical landmark in Long Beach and the crown jewel is the historic mosaic tile on the first floor. Ninyo & Moore’s services included materials testing and special inspection services of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP), reinforcing steel, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, fireproofing, firestopping, waterproofing, roofing, post-installed anchors, non-shrink grout, floor-flatness testing, high-strength bolting, and structural steel fabrication/erection and welding. Our budget was $1.65 million.
