Geophysics: Marine Sub-Bottom Profiling
Sub-bottom profiling systems detect and measure sediment layers present below the sediment/water interface. The system uses acoustic projectors and receivers to transmit and receive FM pulse signals. The variation in reflected signals are used to create high definition cross-sectional and 3-D images of the sub-bottom. The unit is attached to a small motorized boat and can be deployed in small reservoirs, as well as large bodies of water.
